Orange Beach's Locals Month Runs Out of Seats Before It Runs Out of Events

Orange Beach Parks and Recreation put tickets for its new Tables at Twilight dinner on sale October 16. They sold out within a few hours, nearly a month before the November 13 event. Twelve days later the city announced that November is now Locals Month, a full calendar of resident events. For the rest of the month, the limit is how many seats each event has. Some sessions cap enrollment and require registration, while others are free and open to anyone who walks up. Which group an event falls into decides more about your November than its date does.

The dinner that filled before Locals Month was announced

Tables at Twilight is brand new. It's an evening of food, string lights and "gratitude" under the Coastal Arts Center's outdoor tent, and the tickets were gone before the October 28 Locals Month release went out. Parks & Rec says it hopes to bring the event back and "welcome you to the table next time." For now, ticket holders will get the event details by email as the date gets closer.

The same pattern runs through the rest of the month. Several of the remaining events cap enrollment or require registration:

  • The Pickleball Improvers Clinic, free but limited to 12 players
  • The hands-on classes at Locals Art Day
  • The Ayurveda Adult Learning Lab
  • Friendsgiving at the Senior Center

The rest of what remains is free, and the last big gathering of the month, bingo night, needs no registration. Here is how they divide.

The Pickleball Improvers Clinic, set for Thursday, November 12, at 9 a.m., is the clearest example of the pattern. It's free and limited to 12 players who have already finished Intro to Pickleball, and registration was required.

Saturday at the Coastal Arts Center is the busiest day left

The most crowded date remaining is Saturday, November 14. Yoga starts at 9 a.m. at Waterfront Park, and Locals Art Day opens an hour later next door at the Coastal Arts Center, 26389 Canal Road. The arts campus sits on four acres facing Wolf Bay. It has a fine arts gallery of Gulf Coast artists, a Clay Studio and the Hot Shop, an open glassblowing studio that has run since 2009 and lets visitors watch the artists at work.

Art Day's schedule is set to the minute:

  1. 10 a.m.: pottery wheel classes and Pick 'n Paint
  2. 10:30 a.m.: free kids' lighthouse painting project
  3. 11:30 a.m.: pottery handbuilding classes
  4. 11:45 a.m.: Pick 'n Paint
  5. 1 p.m.: adult carving and printing class
  6. 1:30 p.m.: pottery wheel classes and Pick 'n Paint

The day also includes Hot Shop glassblowing experiences and live artist demonstrations. Class sizes are limited, and the hands-on classes require advance registration. The center takes reservations and answers pricing questions at 251-981-ARTS, which is 251-981-2787. On a normal day, all classes at the center require an appointment, and the tourism listing shows fees starting at $95. Gallery admission is free. On Art Day, the free kids' lighthouse painting project and the live demonstrations are open to anyone who comes by.

The events that need no planning are the ones that came back

Look at which events don't need a reservation. Thanksgiving Bingo by the Bay is back for another year. The city's 2025 calendar placed it on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the covered area behind the Coastal Arts Center, next to Waterfront Park. It was free, open to all ages and required no registration, with Thanksgiving pies, cakes and desserts as prizes. This year's version runs Tuesday, November 24, during the same 5:30 to 7 p.m. window under the same tent. Warm soup and cider will be served, and there's still no registration.

Fido Fest followed the same path. Gulf Coast Media covered the inaugural event, held at Waterfront Park on November 9, 2025. The second one, on November 8, was free and open to everyone, "no dog required."

So the events that already worked once use an open lawn and a free door. The new idea, a ticketed dinner, sold out in hours. Waterfront Park and the Coastal Arts Center tent stretch along the same piece of Wolf Bay shoreline, and both of those returning events take place there. The capped events are spread around town at the Pickleball Complex, the Community Center and the Senior Center, where a room's size sets the headcount.

Namaste by the Bay fits the open model. It's free, all ages and levels are welcome, and it meets at 9 a.m. at Waterfront Park on the remaining Saturdays, November 14, 21 and 28, with a different instructor each week.

The sessions to register for this week

Three remaining events depend on registering ahead.

The Adult Learning Lab on Monday, November 16, covers Ayurveda, a traditional approach to health and wellness with roots in India. The class includes a food demonstration and a tasting of traditional Ayurvedic ingredients. It runs 5 to 6:15 p.m. at the Orange Beach Community Center. It's free, class size is limited, and registration goes through the city's activity registration page.

Friendsgiving at the Orange Beach Senior Center is Friday, November 20, from 10 a.m. to noon, for residents ages 50 and up. Guests bring a dish to share for a Thanksgiving potluck with bingo. It's free, but registration is required, either online or by phone at 251-981-3440.

Mahjong Open Play Night was this month's first Locals Month event, on November 6. It isn't a one-off. Parks & Rec holds it on the first Friday of every month at the Community Center, registration is required, and tables, refreshments and door prizes are provided. The next one falls on Friday, December 4.

One activity runs on your own schedule

The History Hunt works differently from everything else on the calendar. Pick up a Historical Markers Brochure and a History Hunt worksheet at the Orange Beach History Museum, 25805 John Snook Drive, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the markers at your own pace over a day or several weeks. Then return the worksheet, sign the official Finisher Book and claim a prize.

The museum building is one of the stops. A 2010 AL.com report traced it back to a one-room schoolhouse that opened in 1910. That report also described exhibits on the area's Native American settlement, its fishing community, the Peteet Sawmill and the growth of tourism. Another marker stands at the Orange Beach Municipal Complex. Its transcribed text covers the city's incorporation in 1984 and its move into the municipal complex in 1988.

The month also has a smaller perk. Through November 30, Parks & Recreation merchandise is 10% off at the Fitness Center and the Golf Center Pro Shop. The discount covers apparel and accessories only, not memberships or services.

Where the calendar goes after November

"While November is our opportunity to give a little extra thanks to our locals, our commitment to serving this community extends throughout the year," Nicole Ard, executive director of Orange Beach Parks and Recreation, said in the city's announcement.

December brings the familiar holiday events:

  • The Wharf. Its December calendar lists the Christmas Tree Lighting for December 1 at 5:30 p.m., the ice rink starting December 1 and running through the month, Photos with Santa on December 4 through 6 and later December weekends, and a Jingle Bell Movie Bash on December 12 at 11 a.m.
  • Visions of Christmas. The annual show returns to the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center, 23908 Canal Road, with 7 p.m. performances December 3 through 5 and a 2 p.m. matinee December 6. Tickets are $5 and all seating is general admission. The city asks attendees to bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots, and the box office is at 251-923-0043.

With four performances and general-admission seating, Visions of Christmas works more like bingo night than like the sold-out dinner. Questions about anything left on the Locals Month calendar go to [email protected] or 251-981-2228.

At Coate Connection, we keep tabs on the city calendar the same way we keep tabs on the Orange Beach market, because knowing a place well means knowing what happens at Waterfront Park on a Tuesday night in November.
