What’s Happening on the Gulf Coast: August 10–16, 2026
Summer isn’t over on the Gulf Coast, but this is the week you can start to feel the season shifting. Schools are heading back, weekday routines are returning, and the calendar is still packed with plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy the last stretch of summer.
From live music in Orange Beach and Pensacola Beach to local markets, outdoor movies, and one of the best meteor showers of the year, here’s what’s happening around Baldwin, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties from August 10–16.
Baldwin County, Alabama
Back to School in Baldwin County
Baldwin County students head back to school on Wednesday, August 12, marking the official start of the 2026–27 school year.
For everyone else, that also means school zones and morning traffic are back. Give yourself a little extra time if you’re traveling through some of the county’s busiest corridors, especially around Foley, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and other school-heavy areas.
ELVIS Featuring Jordan Poole — August 14
Looking for something indoors after a long week in the August heat? The Alabama Gulf Coast Music Hall welcomes award-winning Elvis tribute artist Jordan Poole on Friday night for a full-production tribute to the King.
It’s an easy date-night option or something a little different from the usual dinner-and-beach routine.
A Night of Southern Rock Legends — August 14–15
Downtown OWA in Foley turns up the volume Friday and Saturday with the White Tie Rock Ensemble and two nights celebrating Southern rock.
Expect music inspired by Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers and other staples of the genre, performed by a full ensemble.
Classics in Wood & Ivory — August 15
For a quieter Saturday evening, the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach hosts Classics in Wood & Ivory.
The combination of chamber music, an intimate setting and the Arts Center’s waterfront location makes this one stand apart from the area's usual summer entertainment.
Coastal Alabama Farmers & Fishermens Market — August 15
Saturday morning is also a good time to stop by the Coastal Alabama Farmers & Fishermens Market at 781 Farmers Market Lane in Foley.
The year-round market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and brings together local produce, seafood, honey, baked goods and other Gulf Coast favorites. By August, you’ll find plenty of late-summer produce in season.
More to Do Around Baldwin County
There’s plenty happening throughout the rest of the week, too. Tee Off at The Wharf continues its Tee Off Turned Upsummer live music series in Orange Beach, while Downtown OWA hosts the Brandon Styles Magic Show.
You can also catch the Haunted History Ghost Walking Tour in Foley or head to LuLu’s in Gulf Shores for live music and waterfront views.
Santa Rosa County, Florida
Santa Rosa County Heads Back to School — August 10
Santa Rosa County gets an earlier start, with students returning Monday, August 10.
That means the weekday routine returns to Milton, Pace, Gulf Breeze, Navarre and the surrounding communities. If you’re heading out during school drop-off or pickup times, expect some extra traffic along Highway 90 and Gulf Breeze Parkway.
The Market of Milton — August 13
Thursday evening, head to Jernigan’s Landing in downtown Milton for The Market of Milton.
Running from 5 to 8 p.m., the weekly market features local farmers, bakers, makers and arts-and-crafts vendors along the Blackwater River. It’s a relaxed way to spend an evening and support small businesses from around the area.
Jams in the Sand — August 13
Prefer your Thursday night with an ocean view?
Jams in the Sand continues at Windjammers on the Pier at Navarre Beach. The free summer music series takes place right on the sand near the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier.
Bring a chair or blanket, find a spot and enjoy live music with the Gulf in the background.
Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Continues
Still have school shopping left to do? Florida’s back-to-school sales tax holiday continues through August 20.
Qualifying clothing, footwear, school supplies, learning aids, puzzles, computers and certain accessories can be purchased without state or local sales tax during the holiday, subject to the state’s price limits.
Escambia County, Florida
Bands on the Beach — August 11
One of Pensacola Beach’s favorite weekly traditions returns Tuesday evening when the 9th Avenue Brass Band takes the stage for Bands on the Beach.
The free concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gulfside Pavilion. Bring a lawn chair, settle in and enjoy live music just steps from the Gulf.
The series continues every Tuesday through the fall.
Escambia County Goes Back to School — August 12
Escambia County students return Wednesday, August 12, the same day Baldwin County schools begin their new year.
With two major school districts returning at once, Wednesday morning is a good day to leave home a little earlier than usual if you’re traveling around the region.
Cinemas in the Sand: Goat — August 14
Friday night brings another free event to Pensacola Beach with Cinemas in the Sand.
This week’s movie is Goat, an animated family comedy. Pack a blanket or low-back chair and enjoy a movie night outdoors on the beach.
Looking Ahead: Blue Wahoos Baseball
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are away this week, but baseball returns to Pensacola on Tuesday, August 18, when the Wahoos begin a six-game home series against the Knoxville Smokies.

Look Up Wednesday Night: The Perseid Meteor Shower
One of the biggest events this week isn’t happening at a venue at all.
The Perseid meteor shower peaks Wednesday night, August 12, into the early morning hours of Thursday, August 13. Even better, the timing lines up with dark skies around the new moon, creating favorable conditions for spotting meteors.
The trick is getting away from artificial light.
Fort Morgan, darker stretches around Gulf State Park, Navarre Beach, Perdido Key and areas around Big Lagoon can offer better viewing conditions than brightly lit commercial areas.
You don’t need a telescope. Find a safe, dark location with an open view of the sky, give your eyes about 20 minutes to adjust and get comfortable. The hours between midnight and dawn generally offer the best chance to catch the show.
What Does This Time of Year Mean for Gulf Coast Real Estate?
Back-to-school week changes more than the traffic. It also marks a noticeable transition in the Gulf Coast real estate calendar.
Families hoping to be settled before the first day of school have largely made their moves by this point. From here, the mix of buyers can begin to shift toward second-home shoppers, investors, retirees and people relocating without a school-calendar deadline.
If you’re selling, this is a useful time to take another look at how your property is positioned. If it has been on the market through much of the summer without the activity you expected, review the price, photos, condition and overall presentation before heading into fall.
If you’re buying, don't assume missing the summer rush means missing your opportunity. Properties that have remained available through the busiest part of the season may come with sellers who are more willing to have a conversation about price, closing dates or other terms.
And there’s another Gulf Coast reality to keep in mind: hurricane season.
As we move deeper into August, buyers under contract should stay in close contact with their insurance agent and lender. A tropical system approaching the Gulf can affect when insurers are willing to bind new coverage, which can create unexpected complications for a closing.
