Living at Island Sunrise
Island Sunrise is a seven-story Gulf-front building on East Beach Blvd, about half a mile east of Highway 59. It went up in 1982, part of the wave of beachfront building that followed Hurricane Frederic in 1979, and holds 61 residences.
Homes are one-bedroom units of about 660 to 700 square feet and two-bedroom units of about 830 to 990 square feet. Views range from direct Gulf-front to partial, and the units are a little larger than those at Island Shores next door, with a more traditional layout. Many have been updated with tile floors, granite counters and walk-in tiled showers, and most have a private balcony off the living room.
Owners share an outdoor pool, a grilling and picnic area, a private boardwalk to the beach, an outdoor shower, on-site parking and a covered area under the building with swings and picnic tables. The building is popular with vacation-rental owners.
Walk to the pier and The Hangout
The Gulf State Park Pier is within walking distance to the east, and some units look right over it. At 1,540 feet long, it is the second-longest pier on the Gulf of Mexico, with 2,448 feet of fishing space. To the west, The Hangout and the public beach at Gulf Place are also within walking distance, along with shops and restaurants.
Real estate at a glance
Two-bedroom units are currently listed at about $475,000 to $515,000. HOA dues run about $610 to $660 a month and cover cable, internet, water and sewer, trash, pest control, the pool, insurance, common-area maintenance and reserves.
