Living at Phoenix X
Phoenix X is the farthest-east Gulf-front condominium in Orange Beach, sitting right at the Alabama–Florida state line. Completed in 2002, the gated 14-story tower is one of the Brett/Robinson Phoenix buildings found along the Alabama coast.
Floor plans range from one to four bedrooms, and every home looks out over the Gulf. Owners and guests share indoor and outdoor pools, a kiddie pool, hot tubs, saunas, a fitness center, and tennis and racquetball courts. Gazebos, grilling areas and 24-hour security round out the property, and vacation rentals are allowed.
The Flora-Bama next door
The Flora-Bama, open since 1964, sits just across the state line on Perdido Key Drive and is an easy walk from the tower. The honky-tonk beach bar, oyster bar and live-music venue hosts the Interstate Mullet Toss and the Frank Brown Songwriters' Festival each year, and it hosts Flora-Bama Church services.
Around east Orange Beach
Perdido Pass, about 2 miles west of the state line, links Perdido Bay and Old River to the Gulf and is the main boating route out of Orange Beach. Heading east on the same road, Perdido Key's restaurants, Perdido Key State Park and the protected beaches of Gulf Islands National Seashore are all a short drive away.
